Before there was Planet Musetrix, there was only The Braincell.
Nobody knows whose brain it belonged to. Nobody even knows whether it was a human brain, a collective brain, or some cosmic accident. What historians do know is that the Braincell had one thought:
“Wouldn't it be funny if everything was a little weird?”
That thought did not disappear.
It expanded.
It became a planet.
And in the place where that original thought was most concentrated, Fictio was born.
Fictio became the oldest continuously inhabited city on Musetrix and eventually the planet's unofficial capital of imagination. Its founding principle was simple:
Nothing needs to make sense if it's interesting enough.
Which is why Fictio's history is completely insane.
Why it's called Fictio
The earliest inhabitants believed the city wasn't entirely real.
They called it Fictio, derived from the ancient Musetrix word for something imagined into existence.
The joke is that everybody in Fictio is convinced they're real, while outsiders aren't completely certain.
Fictio's citizens have historically included artists, inventors, performers, eccentrics, notorious weirdos, accidental celebrities, and people who simply walked into the city one day and decided they lived there now.
Nobody questioned it.
The Great Weirdness
Fictio became famous during a period historians call The Great Weirdness, when citizens collectively decided that ordinary civilization was boring.
During this period:
-
Buildings started being designed around personality rather than practicality.
-
Businesses began naming themselves after emotions, inside jokes, or people's first names.
-
Fashion stopped having rules.
-
Public art became basically unavoidable.
-
Entire neighborhoods developed their own aesthetics.
-
It became socially acceptable to introduce yourself with a title you gave yourself.
This is where Fictio earned its reputation as “The Historical City of Weird and Whimsical.”
The Braincell Connection
Here's the REALLY fun part:
Musetrix scientists eventually discovered something beneath Fictio called The First Thought—a strange biological/cosmic remnant believed to be the physical remains of the Braincell that created the planet.
And apparently...
it's still thinking.
Every few centuries, The First Thought produces a new idea that subtly changes the planet.
A new fashion suddenly becomes popular.
A previously nonexistent species appears.
A forgotten street changes location.
A perfume nobody invented somehow exists.
A person wakes up knowing a song they've never heard.
Fictio has become the center of these phenomena because it's supposedly closest to the source.
So people don't just visit Fictio because it's weird.
They visit because weird things happen there first.
And that gives you an AMAZING foundational rule for Planet Musetrix:
The stranger something is, the more likely it is that The Braincell thought of it first.
