My passed-on ancestor used to brew teas for benefits: sugar for sweetness & everlasting comfort, grapefruit for success, Eucalyptus for cleansing & sweet grass for blessings. Until one day all of it gets smoked. I didnt know teas could do anything other than heal for a long time.
Maybe thats the funny thing about sweetness. We think its harmless until you add it to alcohol to make it stronger.
But sugar can preserve, attract, ferment or make something bitter easier to swallow.
I think about that when i think of Shuga Hex. I dont think every ritual needs to look frightening, sometimes it smells good. Sometimes the same hands that can make something appetizing can know exactly when sweetness wasn't enough. Sometimes you dont realize what youve been given until it's actually working.
Maybe thats the hex. Maybe the sweetness was the point.
